I then decided to provide it with a name. I called him Browny, a common term for a brown dog. I began enjoying his company since he became very playful to me. There is no greater joy than a new puppy. Those beautiful big eyes and playful, uncoordinated frolicking will bring you years of fun and love. However, without the proper training your playful pet can easily become an annoying pooch in the blink of an eye. So here are some dog training tips to get you started.

It is easier to train a dog if you reward him. When training your dog, reinforce good behavior with praise. As he is learning a new command, reward him with positive reinforcements, such as games and walks. The golden rule to follow is that the good behavior produces the reward and not the reward produces the good behavior.

Feed your dog twice per day (or number of times your veterinarian recommends), and then take the food away after 15 minutes. When giving treats, ask your dog to sit or lay down, so they understand treats should be earned. When your pet understands you are the food provider and treats are not simply free, they see you as the leader.

To teach your dog to lie down, have him start in a sit position. Take a treat, and place your hand on the ground. Slowly drag it away from your dog. Your dog should initially lower his nose to the ground, and then lie down as he tries to follow the treat further away. If he stands up instead of lying down, have him restart from the sit position. Make sure to praise him once he lies down.

Effectively training your dog should always include rewarding his good behavior. By rewarding your dog with a treat, a rub, or in some other way, you are reinforcing this good behavior. This ensures the likelihood that your dog will repeat this good behavior, because it was rewarded.

It is important that you never hit your dog or slap it in the face. That will not deter the bad behavior and it could cause some potential problems. Your dog may begin to fear you every time you get near it, so avoid hitting your animal during dog training.

If you use treats for positive reinforcement when training your dog, be sure that you use them sparingly. If the dog receives a treat every time it follows one of your commands, it will learn that treats and obedience go together, not you and obedience. If you stop giving treats at that point, the dog will stop obeying.

Check with the community management’s pet policy. Pet lover families can be in trouble when moving from a home with a generous pet policy to a place where no pets are allowed. Move to a place where the pet policy allows you to keep your family friends. Don’t give them up just because the first place you find has a no pet policy.
